The only thing I can recommend after looking at the logs, and you say the drive does indeed work on another notebook Log in or Sign up. I have attached information from under 3 tabs – Drivers, Drive and Disc.

Dell replaced my Inspiron US with an E, device manager has the drive as: The replacement arrived with the faceplate only half attached, but with that fixed it has been working properly. Did you replace the OEM with this drive? I am pretty sure you have the option of getting a better burner when you configer one though. After that I did a complete format and reinstall of XP. I know the drive itself is good because I put it into a co-workers laptop and it works fine on his, just not mine. Already have an account? I was installing Nero burner and after eell the DVD drive just stopped working. Register a new account. No matched drive detected! Sony doesn’t list an update for sw-q58a drive on the support page for that model.
The region code was already set to the USA DVD region and it dw-q8a work properly or at all with quite a few disks, curiously this included most of the Dell disks.
The good point is it is easy to replace optical drives in at least most of these Dell laptops.
